| 1The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying: |

אהַדָּבָ֛ר אֲשֶׁר־הָיָ֥ה אֶל־יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ מֵאֵ֣ת יְהֹוָ֑ה בִּימֵ֨י יְהֽוֹיָקִ֧ים בֶּן־יֹֽאשִׁיָּ֛הוּ מֶ֥לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר: |
| 2Go to the house of the Rechabites and speak with them, and I will bring them to the House of the Lord, to one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink. |
|
בהָלוֹךְ֘ אֶל־בֵּ֣ית הָרֵֽכָבִים֒ וְדִבַּרְתָּ֣ אוֹתָ֔ם וַֽהֲבִֽאוֹתָם֙ בֵּ֣ית יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶל־אַחַ֖ת הַלְּשָׁכ֑וֹת וְהִשְׁקִיתָ֥ אוֹתָ֖ם יָֽיִן: |
| to the house of the Rechabites. The sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab, and they were of the sons of Jethro. |
|
אל בית הרכבים.
בני יונדב בן רכב ומבני יתרו היו:

| 3And I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brothers and all his sons and the entire house of the Rechabites. |
|
גוָֽאֶקַּ֞ח אֶת־יַאֲזַנְיָ֚ה בֶֽן־יִרְמְיָ֙הוּ֙ בֶּן־חֲבַצִּנְיָ֔ה וְאֶת־אֶחָ֖יו וְאֶת־כָּל־בָּנָ֑יו וְאֵ֖ת כָּל־בֵּ֥ית הָרֵֽכָבִֽים: |
| 4And I brought them to the House of the Lord, to the chamber of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which is by the chamber of the princes, which is above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the vessels. |
|
דוָֽאָבִ֚א אֹתָם֙ בֵּ֣ית יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶל־לִשְׁכַּ֗ת בְּנֵ֛י חָנָ֥ן בֶּן־יִגְדַּלְיָ֖הוּ אִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים אֲשֶׁר־אֵ֙צֶל֙ לִשְׁכַּ֣ת הַשָּׂרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר מִמַּ֗עַל לְלִשְׁכַּ֛ת מַֽעֲשֵׂיָ֥הוּ בֶן־שַׁלֻּ֖ם שֹׁמֵ֥ר הַסַּֽף: |

| 5And I placed before the sons of the house of the Rechabites goblets full of wine, and cups, and I said to them, "Drink wine." |
|
הוָֽאֶתֵּ֞ן לִפְנֵ֣י | בְּנֵ֣י בֵֽית־הָרֵֽכָבִ֗ים גְּבִעִ֛ים מְלֵאִ֥ים יַ֖יִן וְכֹס֑וֹת וָֽאֹמַ֥ר אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם שְׁתוּ־יָֽיִן: |
| 6And they said, "We will not drink wine, for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us saying, "You shall not drink wine, you or your children forever. |
|
ווַיֹּֽאמְר֖וּ לֹ֣א נִשְׁתֶּה־יָּ֑יִן כִּי֩ יוֹנָדָ֨ב בֶּן־רֵכָ֜ב אָבִ֗ינוּ צִוָּ֚ה עָלֵ֙ינוּ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לֹ֧א תִשְׁתּוּ־יַ֛יִן אַתֶּ֥ם וּבְנֵיכֶ֖ם עַד־עוֹלָֽם: |
| 7And you shall not build a house, neither shall you sow nor shall you plant a vineyard, nor shall you have [any], but you shall dwell in tents all your days in order that you live many days on the face of the land where you dwell. |
|
זוּבַ֣יִת לֹֽא־תִבְנ֗וּ וְזֶ֚רַע לֹֽא־תִזְרָ֙עוּ֙ וְכֶ֣רֶם לֹֽא־תִטָּ֔עוּ וְלֹ֥א יִֽהְיֶ֖ה לָכֶ֑ם כִּ֠י בָּֽאֳהָלִ֚ים תֵּֽשְׁבוּ֙ כָּל־יְמֵיכֶ֔ם לְמַ֨עַן תִּֽחְי֜וּ יָמִ֚ים רַבִּים֙ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַתֶּ֖ם גָּרִ֥ים שָֽׁם: |
| but you shall dwell in tents. in the deserts where you dwell. They had no share in the land since they were the children of proselytes. |
|
באהלימ תשבו.
במדבריות אשר אתם גריס שם לא היה להם חלק בארץ שבני גרים היו:
|
| 8And we hearkened to the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, to all that he commanded us, not to drink wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, and our daughters. |
|
חוַנִּשְׁמַ֗ע בְּק֨וֹל יְהֽוֹנָדָ֚ב בֶּן־רֵכָב֙ אָבִ֔ינוּ לְכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוָּ֑נוּ לְבִלְתִּ֚י שְׁתֽוֹת־יַ֙יִן֙ כָּל־יָמֵ֔ינוּ אֲנַ֣חְנוּ נָשֵׁ֔ינוּ בָּנֵ֖ינוּ וּבְנֹתֵֽינוּ: |
| 9And not to build houses for our dwelling, and not to have a vineyard, a field, or seed. |
|
טוּלְבִלְתִּ֛י בְּנ֥וֹת בָּתִּ֖ים לְשִׁבְתֵּ֑נוּ וְכֶ֧רֶם וְשָׂדֶ֛ה וָזֶ֖רַע לֹ֥א יִֽהְיֶה־לָּֽנוּ: |
| 10And we have dwelt in tents, and we have hearkened and done according to all that Jonadab our father has commanded us. |
|
יוַנֵּ֖שֶׁב בָּֽאֳהָלִ֑ים וַנִּשְׁמַ֣ע וַנַּ֔עַשׂ כְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֖נוּ יֽוֹנָדָ֥ב אָבִֽינוּ: |
| 11And it came to pass when Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon came up to the land, that we said, "Come and let us go to Jerusalem because of the army of the Chaldeans and because of the army of Aram, and we dwelt in Jerusalem." |
|
יאוַיְהִ֗י בַּֽעֲל֨וֹת נְבֽוּכַדְרֶאצַּ֥ר מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶל֘ אֶל־הָאָרֶץ֒ וַנֹּ֗אמֶר בֹּאוּ וְנָב֣וֹא יְרֽוּשָׁלִַ֔ם מִפְּנֵי֙ חֵ֣יל הַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים וּמִפְּנֵ֖י חֵ֣יל אֲרָ֑ם וַנֵּ֖שֶׁב בִּירֽוּשָׁלִָֽם: |
| And it came to pass when Nebuchadrezzar… came up. Perforce we came to the city. Therefore, we are now dwelling in houses. |
|
ויהי בעלות נבוכדראצר.
על כרחנו באנו העיר לכך עכשיו אנו יושבים בבתים:

| 12And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying: |
|
יבוַיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶל־יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ לֵאמֹֽר: |
| 13So said the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel; Go and say to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem: Will you not receive instruction to hearken to My words? says the Lord. |
|
יגכֹּֽה־אָמַ֞ר יְהֹוָ֚ה צְבָאוֹת֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הָלֹ֚ךְ וְאָֽמַרְתָּ֙ לְאִ֣ישׁ יְהוּדָ֔ה וּלְיֹֽשְׁבֵ֖י יְרֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם הֲל֨וֹא תִקְח֥וּ מוּסָ֛ר לִשְׁמֹ֥עַ אֶל־דְּבָרַ֖י נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה: |
| 14The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, which he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed, and they have not drunk wine until this day for they hearkened to the commandment of their father, and I have spoken to you, speaking betimes, yet you have not hearkened to Me. |
|
ידהוּקַ֡ם אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֣י יְהֽוֹנָדָ֣ב בֶּן־רֵ֠כָב אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֨ה אֶת־בָּנָ֜יו לְבִלְתִּ֣י שְׁתֽוֹת־יַ֗יִן וְלֹ֚א שָׁתוּ֙ עַד־הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה כִּ֣י שָֽׁמְע֔וּ אֵ֖ת מִצְוַ֣ת אֲבִיהֶ֑ם וְאָ֨נֹכִ֜י דִּבַּ֚רְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶם֙ הַשְׁכֵּ֣ם וְדַבֵּ֔ר וְלֹ֥א שְׁמַעְתֶּ֖ם אֵלָֽי: |
| 15And I have sent to you all My servants the prophets, sending betimes, saying: Repent now, each man from his evil way and improve your deeds, and do not follow strange gods to worship them, and dwell on the soil that I have given you and your forefathers, but you did not incline your ear[s], and you did not hearken to Me. |
|
טווָֽאֶשְׁלַ֣ח אֲלֵיכֶ֣ם אֶת־כָּל־עֲבָדַ֣י הַנְּבִיאִ֣ים | הַשְׁכֵּ֣ם וְשָׁלֹ֣חַ | לֵאמֹ֡ר שֻֽׁבוּ־נָ֡א אִישׁ֩ מִדַּרְכּ֨וֹ הָֽרָעָ֜ה וְהֵיטִ֣יבוּ מַֽעַלְלֵיכֶ֗ם וְאַל־תֵּ֨לְכ֜וּ אַחֲרֵ֨י אֱלֹהִ֚ים אֲחֵרִים֙ לְעָבְדָ֔ם וּשְׁבוּ֙ אֶל־הָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־נָתַ֥תִּי לָכֶ֖ם וְלַֽאֲבֹֽתֵיכֶ֑ם וְלֹ֚א הִטִּיתֶם֙ אֶת־אָזְנְכֶ֔ם וְלֹ֥א שְׁמַעְתֶּ֖ם אֵלָֽי: |
| 16For the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, that he commanded them, but this people has not hearkened to Me. |
|
טזכִּ֣י הֵקִ֗ימוּ בְּנֵי֙ יְהֽוֹנָדָ֣ב בֶּן־רֵכָ֔ב אֶת־מִצְוַ֥ת אֲבִיהֶ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוָּ֑ם וְהָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה לֹ֥א שָֽׁמְע֖וּ אֵלָֽי: |
| 17Therefore, so said the Lord God of Hosts, the God of Israel; Behold I am bringing upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have spoken concerning them, because I spoke to them but they did not obey, and I called to them, but they did not respond. |

יזלָ֠כֵן כֹּֽה־אָמַ֨ר יְהֹוָ֜ה אֱלֹהֵ֚י צְבָאוֹת֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הִֽנְנִ֧י מֵבִ֣יא אֶל־יְהוּדָ֗ה וְאֶ֚ל כָּל־יֽוֹשְׁבֵי֙ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם אֵת כָּל־הָ֣רָעָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּ֖רְתִּי עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם יַ֣עַן דִּבַּ֚רְתִּי אֲלֵיהֶם֙ וְלֹ֣א שָׁמֵ֔עוּ וָֽאֶקְרָ֥א לָהֶ֖ם וְלֹ֥א עָנֽוּ: |
| 18And to the house of the Rechabites, Jeremiah said: So said the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel; Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and you have kept all his commandments and have done according to all that he commanded you, |
|
יחוּלְבֵ֨ית הָרֵֽכָבִ֜ים אָמַ֣ר יִרְמְיָ֗הוּ כֹּֽה־אָמַ֞ר יְהֹוָ֚ה צְבָאוֹת֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל יַעַן אֲשֶׁ֣ר שְׁמַעְתֶּ֔ם עַל־מִצְוַ֖ת יְהֽוֹנָדָ֣ב אֲבִיכֶ֑ם וַתִּשְׁמְרוּ֙ אֶת־כָּל־מִצְוֹתָ֔יו וַתַּֽעֲשׂ֕וּ כְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֖ה אֶתְכֶֽם: |
| 19Therefore, so said the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel; There shall not be cut off from Jonadab the son of Rechab a man standing before Me for all times. |
|
יטלָכֵ֗ן כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֛ר יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לֹֽא־יִכָּרֵ֨ת אִ֜ישׁ לְיֽוֹנָדָ֧ב בֶּן־רֵכָ֛ב עֹמֵ֥ד לְפָנַ֖י כָּל־הַיָּמִֽים: |
