אלַֽמְנַצֵּ֗חַ מַשְׂכִּ֥יל לְדָוִֽד: |
| 2When Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul and said to him, "David came to the house of Ahimelech." |

בבְּב֚וֹא | דּוֹאֵ֣ג הָֽאֲדֹמִי֘ וַיַּגֵּ֪ד לְשָׁ֫א֥וּל וַיֹּ֥אמֶר ל֑וֹ בָּ֥א דָ֜וִ֗ד אֶל־בֵּ֥ית אֲחִימֶֽלֶךְ: |
| 3Why do you boast of evil, you mighty man? God's kindness is constant. |

גמַה־תִּתְהַלֵּ֣ל בְּ֖רָעָה הַגִּבּ֑וֹר חֶ֥סֶד אֵ֜֗ל כָּל־הַיּֽוֹם: |
| Why do you boast of evil, you mighty man? Why do you boast and brag of the evil that you do, you who are mighty in Torah? |
|
מה תתהלל
ותתפאר ברעה שאתה עושה אתה הגבור בתורה:
|
| God’s kindness is constant to rescue the one whom you pursue. Another explanation: God’s kindness is constant. Had Abimelech not given me bread, do you think that I would have died of hunger? God always shows kindness toward Israel, and if he had not given me [to eat], others would have given me. |

חסד אל כל היום
להציל את הנרדף על ידך, ד"א חסד אל כל היום אילו לא נתן לי אחימלך לחם מדומה אתה שאמות ברעב, יש חסד בהקב"ה על ישראל כל היום ואם לא נתן לי יתנו לי אחרים:

| 4Your tongue plots destruction, as a sharpened razor, working deceit. |

| 5You loved evil more than good, falsehood more than speaking righteousness forever. |

האָהַ֣בְתָּ רָ֣ע מִטּ֑וֹב שֶׁ֓קֶר | מִדַּבֵּ֖ר צֶ֣דֶק סֶֽלָה: |
| 6You loved all destructive words, a deceitful tongue. |
|
ואָהַ֥בְתָּ כָל־דִּבְרֵי־בָ֗לַע לְשׁ֣וֹן מִרְמָֽה: |
| 7God, too, shall tear you down forever; He will break you and pluck you from [your] tent, and uproot you from the land of the living forever. |
|
זגַּם־אֵל֘ יִתָּצְךָ֪ לָ֫נֶ֥צַח יַחְתְּךָ֣ וְיִסָּֽחֲךָ֣ מֵאֹ֑הֶל וְשֵֽׁרֶשְׁךָ֙ מֵאֶ֖רֶץ חַיִּ֣ים סֶֽלָה: |
| shall tear you down Heb. יתצך, an expression of demolition (נתיצה). |

| 8And righteous men will see and fear, and laugh at him. |

חוְיִרְא֖וּ צַדִּיקִ֥ים וְיִירָ֗אוּ וְעָלָ֥יו יִשְׂחָֽקוּ: |
| and laugh at him And this is the ridicule they will say about him: “Behold! This is the man who does not place his trust in the Holy One, blessed be He. See what happened to him.” |

ועליו ישחקו
וזה השחוק שיאמרו עליו הנה זה הגבר אשר לא שם מבטחו בהקב"ה ראו מה עלתה בו:

| 9"Behold the man who does not place his strength in God and trusts his great wealth; he strengthened himself in his wickedness." |

טהִנֵּ֚ה הַגֶּ֗בֶר לֹֽא־יָשִׂ֥ים אֱלֹהִ֗ים מָֽע֫וּזּ֥וֹ וַ֖יִּבְטַח בְּרֹ֣ב עָשְׁר֑וֹ יָעֹ֥ז בְּהַוָּתֽוֹ: |
| he strengthened himself in his wickedness Heb. יעז בהותו. |

יעז בהוותו
מתגבר היה ברשעו:
|
| 10But I am like a fresh olive tree in the house of God; I have trusted in the kindness of God forever and ever. |
|
יוַֽאֲנִ֚י | כְּזַ֣יִת רַֽ֖עֲנָן בְּבֵ֣ית אֱלֹהִ֑ים בָּטַ֖חְתִּי בְחֶ֥סֶד אֱ֜לֹהִ֗ים עוֹלָ֥ם וָעֶֽד: |
| But I who am now being pursued by you, will be like an olive tree, fresh with children and grandchildren, in the house of the Holy One, blessed be He. |

ואני
הנרדף עתה בידך אהיה כזית רענן בבנים ובבני בנים בבית הקב"ה:
|
| 11I will thank You forever and ever when You have done [this], and I will hope for Your name, for it is good, in the presence of Your devoted ones. |
|
יאאֽוֹדְךָ֣ לְ֖עוֹלָם כִּ֣י עָשִׂ֑יתָ וַֽאֲקַוֶּ֖ה שִׁמְךָ֥ כִי־ט֜֗וֹב נֶ֣גֶד חֲסִידֶֽיךָ: |
| when You have done [this] When You do this for me. This verse is addressed to the Holy One, blessed be He. |

כי עשית
כשתעשה לי זאת וכלפי הקב"ה אמר מקרא זה:
