1And King Ahasuerus imposed a tribute on the land and on the isles of the sea. |

אוַיָּ֩שֶׂם֩ הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ אֲחַשְׁוֵר֧וֹשׁ (אחשר֧ש כתיב) | מַ֛ס עַל־הָאָ֖רֶץ וְאִיֵּ֥י הַיָּֽם: |
2And all the acts of his power and his might and the full account of Mordecai's greatness, how the king advanced him-are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia? |

בוְכָל־מַֽעֲשֵׂ֤ה תָקְפּוֹ֙ וּגְב֣וּרָת֔וֹ וּפָֽרָשַׁת֙ גְּדֻלַּ֣ת מָרְדֳּכַ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר גִּדְּל֖וֹ הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ הֲלוֹא־הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֨פֶר֙ דִּבְרֵ֣י הַיָּמִ֔ים לְמַלְכֵ֖י מָדַ֥י וּפָרָֽס: |
3For Mordecai the Jew was viceroy to King Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews and accepted by most of his brethren; seeking the good of his people and speaking peace to all their seed. |

גכִּ֣י | מָרְדֳּכַ֣י הַיְּהוּדִ֗י מִשְׁנֶה֙ לַמֶּ֣לֶךְ אֲחַשְׁוֵר֔וֹשׁ וְגָדוֹל֙ לַיְּהוּדִ֔ים וְרָצ֖וּי לְרֹ֣ב אֶחָ֑יו דֹּרֵ֥שׁ טוֹב֙ לְעַמּ֔וֹ וְדֹבֵ֥ר שָׁל֖וֹם לְכָל־זַרְעֽוֹ: |
and accepted by most of his brethren. but not by all his brethren, for part of the Sanhedrin disassociated from him when he became close to the government and neglected his studies. |

לְרֹב אֶחָיו.
וְלֹא לְכָל אֶחָיו, מְלַמֵּד שֶׁפֵּרְשׁוּ מִמֶּנּוּ מִקְצַת סַנְהֶדְרִין, לְפִי שֶׁנַּעֲשָׂה קָרוֹב לַמַּלְכוּת וְהָיָה בָטֵל מִתַּלְמוּדוֹ:
|
to all their seed. This refers back to “all his people,” to all the seed of his people. |

לְכָל זַרְעוֹ.
מֻסָּב עַל עַמּוֹ לְכָל זֶרַע עַמּוֹ:
