Unfortunately the video does not mention Nikolaev at all, but according to the page title he came from Nikolaev? Reply

to Gerard If this "cult personality" (as you diagnosed) is about bringing world peace, ending of wars, disease suffering, jealousy, depression, anxiety and hatred-- And for bringing balance, joy and a true love for all man-kind no matter what the race or background - then count me in the "cult"!
Peace brother... Reply

I think we all need someone to aspire to. As it says in Pirkei Avot, every person should find for themselves a spiritual mentor. I wouldn't call Chassidism a personality cult, even though the Chassidim have a close relationship with their Rebbe. For the majority I think the Rebbe represents someone they want to be more like and someone whose advice and guidance they trust more than anyone else's. Reply

The rebbe I can't understand for the life of me how a people that went through so much during the last 3000 years can cultivate such a personality cult for a single individual. As a jew, I find this greatly disturbing...Sorry if this offends anyone, I did not intend to, I just don't get it... Reply

in response to Gerard:

You answered yourself.. maybe just because of what our nation went through.. we need spiritual guide.
More we suffer more dark it looks.
We can easily lose the connection so we grab on someone who has this connection and hang on there.
It’s not cult .. maybe for some but usually in Judaism there was always place for spiritual leaders that nation admired and was inspired and feared. Reply
