The Chabad Lubavitch’s award-winning Chabad Model Matzah Bakery returns for the 42nd year to celebrate Jewish tradition. The Chabad Model Matzah Bakery has become popular in the Rochester Jewish community. It is known to attract thousands of visitors and teach the ins and outs of matzah. Matzah is the special unleavened bread that Jewish people eat on Passover to commemorate their hasty departure from Egypt when there was no time to bake regular leavened bread. | ||

Stephen’s Cafe (741 N. 23rd St.): Shevy Sputz, whose babka, knishes, and other Eastern European baked goods are the hit of the Fairmount Farmers Market, has a new outlet: a kosher cafe that soft-opened Sunday in the former Rembrandt’s and Frankie Ann’s, a stone’s throw from Eastern State Penitentiary. When is Passover in 2025? Passover is celebrated for eight days. This year, it is April 12-20, according Chabad.org, the Chabad-Lubavitch Media Center. The seder, or Passover meal, will occur after nightfall on April 12. "Just before the nation of Israel left Egypt, (God) commanded them to sacrifice the paschal lamb and then eat it with unleavened matzah and bitter herbs," according to Chabad.org. | ||

Rabbi Yitzhak Kesselman, a Hasidic Orthodox Jew who lives in the Chabad community in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, was recently promoted to Corporate Vice President of Messaging and Real-Time Analytics Platform at Microsoft. This makes him the highest-ranking Orthodox Jew at the company. In his position, he will be managing 400 employees around the world in his impressive new role.
