Women of all ages packed a downtown Toronto department store’s banquet hall for a fashion show highlighting the latest trends in clothing for the Jewish religious consumer.

Organized by Chabad-Lubavitch of Markham co-director Goldie Plotkin and the center’s Women of the World sisterhood, the 22nd-annual show partially benefitted the Alternate Short Term Emergency House, a shelter for abused women and their children. Broadcaster Erica Ehm, founder of the Yummy Mummy Club, hosted the gala event.

The show included grandmothers, mothers and daughters modeling modest outfits provided by The Bay department store. An accompanying presentation by Canadian humanitarian Judy Feld-Carr illuminated her work in negotiating the release and smuggling of more than 3,000 Jews out of Syria.

“We Jews are responsible for one another, no matter where the other may be,” said Feld-Carr, according to a report in the Jewish Tribune. “Each one of us does not have the luxury to sidestep our responsibility.”
