Longtime supporter Harry Triguboff has purchased two properties from Chabad-Lubavitch of Sydney, Australia, for $6 million, one of the largest single donations made on behalf of a Jewish institution in Australia.
“Due to the global financial crisis, donations dipped and [we] found it increasingly difficult to both service large mortgages and pay ongoing operating expenses,” said Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Eli Feldman in Sydney.
Rabbi Pinchas Feldman, director of Chabad-Lubavitch of New South Wales, said that Triguboff’s "magnificent gesture" will ensure that Chabad-Lubavitch in Sydney can continue its work for future generations.
Triguboff will purchase the properties, which currently house the Sydney Yeshiva, Yeshiva College and other Chabad institutions, and then lease them back to Chabad-Lubavitch for a nominal sum.
